Barnyard door-sized halibut and all species of salmon can be fished in the bays around Port Lions. Salmon, trout, steelhead, and rainbows can be fished in the streams around the island. The only problem with fishing in Kodiak—you will be spoiled for fishing anywhere else in the world!

Licenses are required for all persons 16 years of age or older and must be in possession while sport fishing. Your fishing license can be purchased and issued at Wilderness Beach Lodge. The 2006 Nonresident sport fishing license fees for the week were $55.00 with an additional $30 fee for a King Salmon stamp.
Halibut fishing is available from early spring to late fall and the best fishing is from May through September. We fish for Halibut in the sheltered bays, protected by the surrounding islands and most of the time fish very shallow in 50 to 100 feet of water with 10 to 20 ounce weights---An adventure in itself.

King Salmon are available and open to fish for the entire year with the best fishing from May through September. The numbers of Salmon caught in May and June are fewer than in July and August, but these Kings can be huge—more than 50 lbs.! When the season peaks in July and August, there are more Kings to be caught, however, they are smaller fish (under 40 lbs). |

The Silvers (Coho) start to come later in July and are plentiful in August and September. We fish for these acrobatic fish in the bays; and we can also fish the streams. Let us know if you have an interest in fly-fishing; we will advise you what personal items you will want to bring for fly fishing. The June run of Sockeye (Red salmon) can be fished in nearby streams or right next to the lodge! |

Rock Fish can be caught all season. Ling Cod are available starting in July and are available for the remainder of the season as well.
We will take special care of your fish once we get back to the lodge. The fish will be cleaned filleted, vacuum sealed, and quick frozen. |
