Viking - Wilderness beach lodge Alaska fishing boat
The Lodge operates three Coast Guard approved charter boats and all are comfortable and have heated cabins with head facilities and plenty of room for guests to enjoy the ride to the fishing grounds.

In June, 2007 we started using our new 30 North River aluminum boat, the Irish Lord. This boat was built to our specifications and we are very pleased with its mechanical performance and speed. The Irish Lord has a comfortable cabin that seats six people very comfortably and has an enclosed private restroom. The twin 250 horse power outboard motors give this boat plenty of speed. This boat is perfect for fishing 4 fisherman.

Our Maxweld Catamaran, the Viking was delivered to Port Lions in June, 2008. This aluminum cat has twin 350 horse power turbo diesel inboard motors power this vessel, enabling her to reach distant fishing grounds with minimum travel time. At 40 ft x 14’ it is very safe, comfortable, and anglers will appreciate the full walk-around deck which allows ease in fighting fish from any position on the boat. The Viking has a landing-craft feature, allowing the bow to fold down for easy beach access for bank fishing and exploring. The fully enclosed heated cabin has a private restroom and comfortable indoor seating. We like to fish 6 people on this boat.

The Debra Kay, our 38’ North River aluminum boat was also delivered in June, 2008. This boat has twin 350 horsepower turbo outboard motors. Like our other boats, this vessel has a comfortable heated cabin with plenty of seating, an enclosed head, and was custom built with safety, comfort, and fishability in mind. We fish 6 people on this vessel.

All three boats participate in Coast Guard Safety Programs.  These programs require us to have safety equipment above and beyond regulatory requirements.  These boats are also physically inspected by the Coast Guard on a regular basis.

The salmon and halibut fishing a few minutes from the lodge is some of the best in Alaska. With our fleet, we have added more range for access and fishing in very remote areas, but always a short distance from shore.

Tackle

We have outfitted our boats with the finest high quality downriggers and fishing tackle which is perfectly matched to the target species in Kodiak waters. Our salmon and halibut rods and reels are very durable and dependable, but are a little on the lighter side; enabling anglers to experience the fighting of the fish instead of the tackle.
